We are seeking a compassionate, responsible, and trustworthy individual to care for children in a safe and nurturing environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day care, development, and well-being of children. The Child Minder will engage with children through activities, ensure their safety, and support their educational and emotional growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Child Care & Supervision:
- Ensure the childrens safety at all times, both indoors and outdoors.
- Supervise and monitor children during activities, playtime, meals, and rest periods.
- Attend to childrens personal hygiene needs (e.g., bathing, dressing, feeding).
- Administer basic first aid when necessary.
- Education and Development:
- Plan and participate in age-appropriate educational and recreational activities (e.g., reading, arts & crafts, outdoor games).
- Encourage positive social and emotional behavior, providing gentle discipline and setting boundaries as needed.
- Support schoolwork and learning activities, if applicable, and communicate with parents regarding educational progress.
- Meal Preparation & Feeding:
- Prepare healthy meals/snacks for the children based on dietary needs.
- Feed children as per the familys instructions, ensuring all meals are balanced and nutritious.
- Ensure the cleanliness of dining areas after meals.
- Household Support:
- Light housekeeping related to the childrens care, such as cleaning their rooms, washing their clothes, and organizing toys and play areas.
- Assist with laundry and tidying up after meals or activities.
- Communication with Parents/Guardians:
- Regularly update parents/guardians on childrens activities, behaviors, and any concerns.
- Maintain open lines of communication to ensure expectations and routines are met.
- Safety & Emergency Protocols:
- Enforce safety rules and ensure the children are safe from harm.
- Be prepared to handle emergencies, administer first aid, and communicate effectively with emergency services if needed.
- Keep emergency contact information readily available and up-to-date.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience:
- Previous experience in childcare, such as working as a nanny, child minder, teacher, or daycare worker.
- Proven track record in child supervision, particularly with children of similar age.
- Education:
- Higher National Diploma (Minimum requirement).
- A child development or early childhood education certification is an added advantage.
- Skills:
- Ability to engage and bond with children of various ages.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with both children and parents.
- High attention to detail and the ability to multitask.
- Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR (preferred but not mandatory).
- Personal Attributes:
- Patience, empathy, and nurturing attitude.
- Trustworthy, reliable, and punctual.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of the family.
- Flexibility in accommodating the familys schedule and needs.
- Language Skills:
- Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of local Nigerian languages (e.g., Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa) may be an advantage.
Working Conditions:
- Work Hours: Flexible hours depending on the familys needs. This may include evenings, weekends, or holidays.
- Location: The family home (provide specific details, e.g., city, neighborhood).
- Accommodation: If live-in, accommodation and meals will be provided.
- Compensation: Competitive salary, with benefits (transport allowance, health benefits, etc.) based on experience.
