The Hotel Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the hotel, ensuring the accuracy of financial records, managing budgets, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with all relevant financial regulations. The ideal candidate must be able to work independently and effectively with little to no supervision, be ready to adhere to hotel policies and engage in an extraordinary work schedule when required. A strong background in taxation law, corporate governance, and experience in managing a team will be a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting & Record Keeping:
- Prepare, maintain, and manage the hotels financial records, ensuring they are accurate and up-to-date.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (balance sheets, profit and loss statements, cash flow statements).
- Ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded and categorized in accordance with the hotels accounting policies.
- Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Develop and manage budgets, forecasting future financial performance, and analyzing variances between budgeted and actual figures.
- Work closely with department heads to ensure proper allocation of funds and adherence to budget guidelines.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Oversee the accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payments to suppliers and accurate invoicing to clients.
- Ensure that all payments are made within the agreed terms and that accounts receivable are collected on time.
- Cash Management:
- Manage the hotels cash flow, ensuring adequate funds are available to meet operational needs.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit card transactions, and cash flow daily to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
- Tax Compliance & Corporate Governance:
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, preparing tax returns and supporting documentation for audits.
- Maintain a deep understanding of taxation law and corporate governance practices.
- Ensure that all financial practices comply with relevant laws and regulations to mitigate risk.
- Internal Controls:
- Establish and monitor internal controls to safeguard hotel assets and minimize the risk of financial discrepancies or fraud.
- Conduct periodic audits to ensure compliance with accounting policies and hotel procedures.
- Payroll Management:
- Oversee payroll processing, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.
- Ensure adherence to all payroll laws and regulations, including benefits, taxes, and deductions.
- Financial Analysis:
- Analyze financial data and trends to provide actionable insights for management regarding profitability and cost control.
- Support management in making strategic decisions by providing financial forecasts, profit analyses, and cost-saving recommendations.
- Audit & Compliance:
- Assist with internal and external audits, ensuring the hotel complies with accounting standards and industry regulations.
- Ensure all financial records are available for review during audits.
- Team Management & Training:
- Work closely with a team of cashiers and train them on accounting and financial procedures.
- Provide guidance and support to subordinates, ensuring they adhere to proper financial practices and procedures.
- Tracking & Monitoring:
- Use a financial tracker to manage expenses, monitor budgets, and ensure that financial records are consistently up-to-date and accurate.
- Collaboration & Policy Adherence:
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure financial operations are aligned with hotel objectives.
- Ensure adherence to all hotel policies and procedures, maintaining compliance across all financial activities.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Chartered Accountant certification (e.g., ACA, ACCA) is a significant advantage.
- Strong knowledge of taxation law and corporate governance.
- At least 3-5 years of experience in accounting, with a preference for hotel or hospitality industry experience.
- Proficiency in accounting software; familiarity with Valino software is a plus.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Experience in training and managing subordinates, especially cashiers.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: ₦170,000.00 per month
