Job Summary:

Our client, a commercial-scale Agro-allied company operating across Africa is seeking a responsible and skilled Cassava Milling Operator to manage the cassava milling operations, ensuring efficient size reduction of raw cassava tubers for downstream processing (e.g., starch extraction, ethanol fermentation, or food processing). The ideal candidate will be experienced with milling machinery and possess a basic understanding of process hygiene and plant safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate and monitor cassava milling equipment such as hammer mills, raspers, or graters.
• Feed raw cassava tubers into the milling system and maintain continuous throughput.
• Check and adjust machine parameters (speed, feed rate, blade sharpness, etc.) for optimal grinding efficiency.
• Monitor consistency and particle size of milled cassava mash as per quality standards.
• Perform pre-start checks and routine equipment cleaning.
• Ensure timely removal of fibrous waste or peel residue from the process line.
• Conduct minor maintenance, such as lubrication, filter cleaning, and screen changes.
• Record shift production data including input-output quantity, downtime, and maintenance logs.
• Report any mechanical issues or abnormal equipment behavior to the maintenance team.
Adhere to safety, hygiene, and sanitation guidelines within the milling area.

Qualifications:

• High school / ITI / Diploma in Mechanical, Food Processing, or related field.
• 1-3 years of experience in cassava or similar root crop processing (milling/grating/crushing).
• Familiarity with cassava processing operations (especially for starch or ethanol production) is a plus.
• Proficiency in operating milling machines and performing routine maintenance
• Experience in monitoring production processes and ensuring quality control
• Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to solve equipment-related issues
• Good understanding of safety regulations and standards
Effective communication skills and ability to work well within a team

Key Skills:

• Operation of milling/grating machines

• Knowledge of hygiene and food safety standards
• Attention to detail and record-keeping
Ability to work in a team and under minimal supervision

Working Conditions:

• Shift-based work (including night shifts)
• Exposure to wet, noisy, and humid environments
• Use of PPE (gloves, masks, boots, etc.) is mandatory
Physically demanding tasks such as lifting and moving raw cassava
